Barry Makes Landfall

Hurricane Barry made landfall this morning on the Louisiana coast near Marsh Island South of Abbeville. Barry is moving Northwest at 6 mph.  That’s more West than predicted, good news for metro New Orleans.  Maximum sustained winds 75 mph, gusts at 90 mph. Little rain fell over metro New Orleans overnight. Baton Rouge and Lafayette could still see anywhere from 10″ to 15″ of rain today. The Mandeville lakefront is now experiencing flooding and areas outside the levee protection area are experiencing coastal flooding.
Tropical conditions with off and on bands of showers and gusty winds are forecasted for the New Orleans area through today. With up to 6″ of rain possible we could still see some street flooding. It’s recommended not to drive too far away from home today.
