BATON ROUGE (WTIX) – Governor John Bel Edwards has extended Louisiana’s stay-at-home order through May 15, relaxing some restrictions on Friday to include letting people eat meals packaged to go at outdoor restaurant tables with no servers and letting mall stores begin curbside service and some other minor adjustments.
Meanwhile, New Orleans Mayor Cantrell issued her statement dictating the city’s stricter rules will continue, with no relaxed restrictions.
They’re mixed feelings in the business community about her actions. Some feel she’s perpetuating a long-term ‘disease stigma’ on a tourist town. Saying, “the New Orleans economy is in great pain equal to that of this virus.” She has made no recovery plan public to this date. Cancellation of Mardi Gras 2021 is also on the table, says Cantrell.
