Hurricane Sally News – 9/14/2020 – Update

NEW ORLEANS, La. (WTIX) – Sally will possibly strengthen to a category 2. The National Hurricane Center forecast for category 1 hurricane Sally has the storm making landfull on the Mississippi gulfcoast near Biloxi. The storm now has reformed further east as of 1pm Monday. The eastward (right) shift in projected landfall continues to hold true. Sally is forecast to slow down today as it approaches the extreme SE Louisiana Coast late tonight. Sally could skirt the mouth of the Mississippi River early Tuesday morning before turning due north towards the Mississippi coast line with significant impacts.
Storm surge will likely be the greatest issue locally. Storm surge amounts have come down some along parts Southeast Louisiana.  Although on the Mississippi coast dangerous high surge.
Sally’s track will take the majority of heavy rain into Mississippi, Alabama and Florida panhandle. Significant rainfall totals of 15-20″ will occur in these areas causing major flooding concerns.
Tropical wind impacts for the New Orleans metro area are for Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. Along the coast winds will be highest with tropical storm force winds possible today. Hurricane force winds remain possible along the extreme SE coast late Monday into early Tuesday as Sally’s core moves through.
